The 2010 LA Marathon: From the Stadium to the Sea
The LA Marathon has moved back to March AND has a new course! This year's
event promises to be an historic and memorable one.
From the official LA Marathon
website:
Beginning at Dodger Stadium, the LA Marathon
will pass through many of LA's iconic neighborhoods including
Hollywood, the Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and
Westwood en route to finishing along the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica.
Over 25,000 participants, 500,000 route spectators, 50,000+ visitors to
the Sponsor Expo (March 19 and 20) and 5,000 volunteers make the LA
Marathon one of the largest combined participatory and spectator events
in the US.
The Los Angeles Council has begun its fundraising efforts for the 2010 LA Marathon, and is currently recruiting runners and walkers for the Marathon OR the 5k events. Participants will raise funds to help support HI-USA's outreach programs in our local community. Many of these programs provide hands-on learning experiences for LA-area students at our South Bay hostel on the Pacific Ocean. To learn more about the programs you can help support, and to find out more information about HI-USA's Marathon efforts (including how to get your $125 LA Marathon registration fee reimbursed), see our website. |

Anniversary Year Open House Celebrations
-The courtyard at the HI-Santa Monica Open House-With 2009 marking the 75th Anniversary of HI-USA, as well as
the 100th Anniversary of the worldwide hostelling movement, Hostelling
International has been holding various celebrations across the globe. Locally, the Los Angeles Council, in
conjunction with HI hostels in Santa Monica, Fullerton, and San Pedro, hosted
Open House Events during International Hostelling Week (August 22-30).
-Great cake was had at the San Pedro Open House-
The three events reached out to surrounding local
communities, generated successful turnouts, and created a large amount of
visibility for Hostelling International.
Together, the three Los Angeles area hostels and the Los Angeles Council
were presented with several Official Proclamations from various city and county
representatives.
