HI-Travel Grant Deadline Approaching

The deadline for HI-USA’s 2009 Travel Grant applications is fast approaching.  The Travel Grant is an amazing opportunity for travelers age 17-26 from the greater Los Angeles area to share their unique experiences through art, film, photography, or writing.

World Travel 101: Budget Travel Workshops

Our World Travel 101 Workshops are a great introduction for first-time travelers abroad, or for veteran travelers heading to a new region or country.  The workshops feature experienced speakers who can give you the ins-and-outs of international travel with advice and tips on accommodations, health, money, budgeting, packing, safety, transportation, and responsible travel.  Be sure to come with questions!

Workshops take place at the HI-Travel Store (1434 Second Street, Santa Monica). Admission is $5 for HI members and $10 for non-members.  Each session begins at 11am and usually runs 90 minutes. Two hour free parking is available in the public parking structure across the street.  Workshops are subject to change or cancellation, so please make a reservation at (310) 393-3413.

Annual Members’ Meeting

The 2009 Annual Members’ Meeting has been scheduled for June 6.  The Annual Meeting hosts elections for our Board of Directors, as well as the presentation of the Spirit of Adventure Award.

 

The Los Angeles Council of HI-USA is currently accepting nominations for its “Spirit of Adventure” award.  This honorary award recognizes an individual (or individuals), regardless of age, who, through his or her experiences, has demonstrated outstanding enthusiasm and curiosity while traveling abroad.

The recipient of this award will be honored with special recognition and an HI-USA Life Membership, both of which will be presented at the HI-Members Annual Meeting & Party on June 6.
