Depending on your time and interests, there's room for you to help our Council make a difference in the Los Angeles community. Without quality volunteers like yourself we could never get all of our work done!
Opportunities span from making a
hosteller's visit to Los Angeles unique and special to fundraising and grant writing talent to outgoing
travelers wanting to teach others how to go out in the world safely and confidently.

Walking Tour Leaders are
needed to
share your favorite parts of L.A.
Love hiking, nature, the beach? Lead one of many walking tours through your
favorite parts of Los Angeles and act as an informative guide for foreign
visitors.
Other
opportunities exist - Do you have a
talent, a craft or a special presentation you would like to share with our
international guests? Do you want to share
your time and give our hostellers the
opportunity to help others through community service? Let us know what your idea may be. We can start on the road together
for greater understanding of the world and its people!
Volunteers
create fresh, stimulating activities that connect you to international visitors. There's so much to share and learn. Volunteers help provide our guests with personal and meaningful interactions that make their stays
pleasurable and memorable.
All activities

World Travel 101 Speakers
Following a guided
PowerPoint format, and interspersed with your own personal travel experience, you can teach others
the basics of budget and regional travel. Speakers
have to have traveled to the region they are presenting within the last 2-3
years.
Each presentation
is held on a Saturday and requires a commitment of 2 hours, Speakers must be able to present at least two workshops within a six-month time period. Most volunteers serve 3-4 times per year.
A one day training session is required.

Hostelling International USA
provides more than just low-cost accommodations – we promote international
awareness and understanding. We believe that you have to see the world to understand it.
Leaving familiar surroundings, traveling to new places and staying in hostels
along the way help you experience new places and cultures, and build
friendships with people of diverse backgrounds. Hostelling shapes perspectives
that are less judgmental, that appreciate diversity and recognize the world's
interconnectedness. Today it is more important than ever to ensure that all
people–especially the young–have a chance to participate in
life-changing travel experiences.
Here at the Los Angeles Council, our hostel
programs help international travelers connect; our school-age programs opens
students' eyes to the natural environment and their role in protecting it;
and our community programs seek to encourage and prepare locals
to venture abroad. We need your help to ensure more people have the
opportunity to engage in meaningful, educational travel that broadens

Become a Board Member
Take an active role in Council agena and leadership. We need talented professionals to help us grow and meet the needs of both mature and young members. Additionally, we need ideas that will help us execute and fund successful and beneficial programs to Los Angeles' youth. Our Board Members shape the face of the Los Angeles Council and represent the mission of HI-USA.
